[FCNYC] OFFER Desktop Computer w/ Linux, 15" LCD flat-panel screen, Union Square

 

This is a fully-functional desktop computer. It's about 5 years old, but works very well for anything except the latest graphically-intensive games. (However, has a video card that was very respectable 5 years ago.) But if you're not into that stuff, this is an excellent internet & word-processing terminal. It was my second/third computer, and was very lightly used when it was used at all. It's been in storage for the last 2 years.

Software: It's fully installed, configured and updated with Ubuntu Linux. It's easy to use, and includes web-browsers, office software that's compatible with MS Office (called 'OpenOffice'), media players for your music/photos/video, and much more. Ubuntu Linux is a very polished and robust operating system, with great online and offline help. Installing all the free software you can get is very easy using their installer. (However, if you had a hard time learning Windows, and can't imagine having to learn things over again on Linux, this might not be the computer for you.)

Hardware: Full-size tower case, containing a CD-R/RW drive, floppy, Zip (100), and 40GB IDE hard drive. Also has on-board USB and ethernet (10Base-T, I believe), plus a firewire card and a modem card. The screen is a 15" KDS LCD flat-panel. Great color, no problems. I think it was CNet's favorite flat-panel screen back when it was new. Wireless Keyboard and mouse by Logitech, with fresh batteries. Also comes with a 'CyberPower' UPS battery backup. The video card has both DVI and VGA ports. It also has what appears to be a 4-channel sound card, but I don't remember much about that.

My terms: just tell me who you are and why you need it. I'd rather provide this to a household that doesn't have its own computer already, or to a student, but I'll consider all comers.
